We have been writing rhyming couplets for a “Sick” poem - inspired by Shel Silverstein’s work.
Using post-it notes we all contributed to a really, really long poem, it spilled over onto the wall and then down onto the floor!

Snow falling fastly

You don’t know me
but I’m there

turn the light off
and I disappear.
What am i?

Dead tree
Branches are down
The leaves off on the ground
Branches snapping one by one
Dead tree
The leaves off on the ground

Wind blows
As they rock trees
Leaves blow high in the sky
As they fal to the mud colour ground grass
Wind blows.
Autumn
Is 3 season
As they float peacefully
They lay there for days ice-cold
Dead now.

Autumn
leaves scattering
leaves are floating slowly
I’m feeling colder and colder
My next poem
Autumn
leaves are falling
they are turning golden
getting colder getting colder
Autumn
next poem
Autumn
those autumn days
colder and colder
leaves go from green to golden
Autumn

I have many surroundings,
Sometimes I crunch,
I’m multicoloured,
And sometimes things munch.
What am I?

i am a poppy
in flanders field
that cover the dead
that fought for the world
the bombs that fell
destroyed the land
thats why I grew
and stand so grand.

I go around you,
I’m quite tall,
I’m gathered with friends,
I can sometimes be cold.
What am I?

This week we have been exploring a variety of poetic styles and writing “instant anthologies” - we wrote haiku and cinquains on post-it notes and then published them around the classroom.
In two literacy sessions we have written about 200 poems altogether!

We wear a poppy
On Remembrance Day,
And at eleven
We stand and pray.
Wreaths are put
Upon a grave.
As we remember
Our soldiers brave.
